A small delicate structure developed from prehistoric vulvic self-images. The vulva in that context is presented as the source of (re)birth and regeneration. It also relates to the most archetypal coiled symbols – water, life, breasts, eyes, power, coiled like a snake that can shed its skin and crawl anew.
This is not the first time that Tabone presents female genitalia in ways that they have historically seldom been seen in public, especially when depicted by male artists. Her OM from 2015 took this line of presentation to the other end of the spectrum from where she aims to take her audience with Fjur. The harsh reality of bloody birth is not present in any way in Fjur. Similarly, this work from 2020 is arguably the most delicate work Tabone created until this point.
