Poetry is very present in Tabone’s life and works. While she has never explicitly presented herself as a poet in public contexts, her visual art works have both used written poetry as an element within them, as well as alluded to poetic devices, such as word play, similes, and metaphorical imagery.
Isqini is literally a poem written by Enrique Tabone. It is presented on a translucent colour image, which is predominantly purple, mounted on a lightbox. The image is a colourised video still from Not Venus and so creates yet another lay of meaning for that work.
As presented in the Prestorjha series, Isqini must be seen as a visual poem, which incorporates the ocular impact of the coloured light emanating through the translucent film on which the poem is printed. The literary aspects of the poem are inevitably impacted by this rendition. It is as if the words become lyrics to a song which is projected silently towards its viewers.
